Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
